GitHub Copilot Gets Claude Opus 4.5 Integration

GitHub has officially introduced Claude Opus 4.5, Anthropic’s latest flagship AI model, into its Copilot platform. With this upgrade, developers gain access to stronger reasoning, improved code generation, and more reliable AI-assisted workflows across all supported environments.

The new model is available to users subscribed to Copilot Enterprise, Copilot Business, Copilot Pro, and Copilot Pro+. Developers can use Claude Opus 4.5 through Copilot Chat on GitHub.com, GitHub Mobile, VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, and Eclipse.

The model can be selected directly from the chat model picker in agent, ask, and edit modes, making it easy to switch depending on the task.

For organizations on Copilot Business or Enterprise, administrators must enable the model manually. This is done by turning on the dedicated Claude Opus 4.5 policy in the Copilot settings.

Once enabled, the model becomes instantly available to all team members across supported IDEs.

Individual plan holders can activate the model on their own by selecting it from the model picker. GitHub will display a quick confirmation prompt when users enable it for the first time.

GitHub also mentions that the rollout is happening in stages. Users who don’t see Claude Opus 4.5 immediately are advised to check again later as it becomes available to all accounts.

The company encourages developers to experiment with the new model’s capabilities and share their feedback within GitHub Community discussions. Insights from users will help shape future improvements and guide the evolution of Copilot’s AI experience.
